I'll try to take some pics today and put them up somehow. And Deb, couldn't get out last night...bbq with the family. All the best and see you and Leon in the forest soon!

Hey Pete, from what I've read on the forum the life, racing and riding seems pretty good. As requested, here are some photos from my first ride at home. They illustrate some of the firetrails in the Royal National Park. Acutally the vegetation and ground you see here is pretty much representative of all the fire trails around Sydney. Hope you understand that I didn't want to stop in the middle of the fun singletrack. As for my bike, the only change has been the addition of SPDs instead of flat pedals. Actually I think the combination of flat pedals and really sticky shoes caused me knee pain while in the UK. Who'd have though that clipless pedals would have more float than flats?
I look forward to seeing pics of your KOM jersey and bouncy bike. Leon.

Hey Leon
Took the liberty of replying as been out with Pete and Jane this morning for my virgin clipless ride! Tried it for about six weeks last year and gave it up as my knees were getting bashed so much from the falls and they ain't the prettiest of sights at the best of times. So far, no mishaps but I can guarantee they are to come....... especially as I'm doing the last Beastway on them on Weds. Won't help that we spent most of the morning today drinking tea and consoling Jane on her bad back that kicked in on the way to the forest on the train. That said, I can see that it will make a big difference on the downhills, not having to worry about slipping off and reckon my shins will like the rest from being whacked by platform pedals. As for the upthrust............................(sorry, that was Archemides, but you get my gist?)
Sydney's looking good. No other riders to take your photo? Might be over there next year some time to see little bro, but depends on the saving situation and whether I ever get a lodger.
Take care and keep in touch

They look great and it's even more great to see the green kona on the other side of the world trundling over yet more cool looking singletrack. It's good to see another convert to clipless, as Caz will testify the upthrust is a big help! We went out and she was off!Must pedal, must pedal. On flats it feels like driving without the seatbelt with a big steak knife poking out the wheel! Besides I've always thought that most knee probs aren't the pedals's fault, they're only little! As I keep saying, I'll do my best to remember to take the camera with me so you can wave at us! Although it'd be good to have a pic of you going over a huge jump so we can all wave at you! Another thing, is the a choc bar over there called mint crisp? I might have the name wrong, but it's a rectangular bar as normal, quite flat, and it's got like a minty kryptonite type stuff, green, with a thin layer of dark chocolate. A friend that moved to New zealand sent me some and man.........eat some for me!
Keep on Kona

I run mine really loose to avoid SPD stacks although once pulled my feet out of them at speed when trying to race a friend on the road. Momentum caused me to slide forward off the saddle and ended up sitting on the top tube with my feet splayed out to stabilise. Someone behind me saw sparks coming from my shoes as the cleats were grinding on the asphalt!

Here's a 4X track at Sydney Olympic Park. It is waaaay too easy to get air but I'm chicken and similarly don't fly.
