Barely!

The drive down through Europe went pretty much as planned - We left Sittingbourne at about 0030 Monday, ferry from Dover to Dunkerque at 0415, then through France and Belgium into Germany, and overnight near Stuttgart. It was wet all day!

Tuesday was the rest of Germany, and over the Alps in to Austria, then into Italy for tha overnight at Verona. Weather was great, really sunny as we drove over the Alps, with only a small snow storm as we crossed into Italy.

We left Verona at about 0700 on Wednesday to finish the drive through Northern Italy to Ancona, for a ferry at 1600. We got to Ancona at 1100, to find that they were not letting anyone in to the port due a dock workers strike in Greece.

We had to spend about 36 hours hanging around in Ancona until they finally got us on a ship leaving at 1800 Thursday night. We couldn't do much to entratain ourselves as we had to hang around the port hoping to get on a ferry - and it was throwing it down the whole time, pretty much!

We weren't sure that we would even fit in the ferry, the number of cars and lorries waiting was enornmous!

The ship finally left at nearly 2030, by the time they had finished shoe-horning all the vehicles onto the 3 decks.

The crossing took 32 hours instead of its normal 22 (bad weather) , so we finally got to the apartment at about 0400 on Saturday. We've been unpacking since, and this is the first chance we've had to get online, as the phone line hasn't gone in to the apartment yet - so we're in an internet cafe at the moment.

We getting settled in, the weather is excellent, and we're looking forward to getting the bikes assembled and getting out into the mountains over teh next few days.

We've got mobile now, so we can be contacted by phone or text - email access will be a bit erratic for the moment.

My number is +30 694 876 7964
Emily is +30 694 726 8969

See you all soon!

Alaric (& Em, of course)

I suppose while you where travelling you did not hear the news about the £4million EU grant to turn Epping into a state of the art bike park.
