Hello
I'm a complete beginner and I wondered if anyone could recommend somewhere that does weekend courses to get started? I've cycled loads just getting around so I'm happy on a bike, just not sure how to tackle off-road stuff. Although as a kid it seemed effortless but maybe lack of fear had something to do with it! I also have no idea how to choose a bike (read the post, very interesting) so I thought a course might give me an idea of what I should be looking for.
Oh, and I live in London, so somewhere not too far away would be good. I'd like to come and join you in Epping forest but need a bit of help to get going first.
Cheers
Juliet

Hi Juliet,
There's not a lot locally by way of formal courses - the best place to try would be www.astonhill.com, but I'm not sure if even they do what you're looking for.
It's not exactly nearby, but www.mountainbikeinstruction.co.uk are very good - well worth a trip to Bolton.
Mike and Mukesh are part of the Epic MTB Greece team, and so are both qualified Mountain Bike instructors.
They ride regularly in the forest and are both more than happy to help less experienced riders along. If you want to email either of them to have a bit of a chat try mike@epicmtbgreece.com or mukesh@epicmtbgreece.com
If you do want to jst come out for a ride one weekend, all the guys are very welcoming and relaxed - there's no pressure to ride at race speed all day (or at all, in fact)!
There are a few girls that ride regularly as well - you can always pm them through the forum memberlist if you want a bit of reassurance - try Cazza, Emily, Ferrari or Girl from Pitt.
Have fun
Alaric. _________________ "Act your shoe size, not your age..." |

Hi Juliet,
So 5 months on, how are you getting on with riding off road? |
