Hey there Mick

Hope Greece was fun. Look forward to hearing of your exploits soon.

A few of us are going to Thetford on Sunday to try it out before Dusk till Dawn the following week. We are aiming to meet at the Brandon Country car park at about 10/10.30.

Be great to see a few folk in a different setting!

Really? Have you not zoomed in to see the look of terror on his face where he realises he has to ride it because it's too late to brake?

Hi all,

can anyone tell me how crazy you guys are in epping forest? I'm female and seriously wanting to join the ride on Sunday. I have a hybrid bike but i'm concerned that i won't cope with the ride. I've not done mountain biking before....

Any reassurance would be great and where is the bike shed at South Woodford?

Emily

Hi Sze
The meeting points are here: http://eppingforestepics.myfreeforum.org/Meeting_Points_about31.html

The Bike Shed is now called 'South Woodford Meet' because the bike shed shop no longer exists.

The ride is about 20-30 miles of twisty singletrack which is doable on most bikes so long as you have nobbly tyres. Not being there at the moment, I don't know how muddy the forest is at present. I am sure someone will be along to let us know...

Where have you ridden before?
sze187

I'm on the case for nobbly tyres. I have ridden in epping forest before, but i don't do lots of roots very well and i definitely don't bunny hop over them.

I wasn't sure whether you stick to pathways or whether you go completely of track.

I'm relatively fit and cycle to work aswell. Anyhoo, i'll give it a bash.

See you Sunday.

Hello! I'm thinking of coming out on Sunday as well, this will be my first ride at Epping. I normally ride Thetford Forest and Broxbourne Woods.

My question is along sze187's lines - how quickly do you usually get around the 20-30 miles??
Mick_the_Greek

Sundays Ride,

Did try to post earlier, so this may be a duplication, just to reasure a new or first time riders to Epping for Sundays ride that we will be making special allowances for all inexperienced riders, you will not be left to fend for youreselves, ride should finnish about 2 -2.30pm. See you all on Sunday, for our more experienced riders there will be an alternative route if numbers warrant it.
Regards, Mike.
Emily

Cool. Cheers Mike!
Beth

Brilliant! Thank you - see you there on Sunday

hi all,

i discovered this a few weeks ago and ive been meaning to come along at some point especially over the three weeks of summer while the trails were dusty. Wink

but ive got up to late or gone way early. im hoping to make it tomorrow though.

anyone been out this week, just wondering what conditions the trails are in.

cheers, chris

Re conditions epping

This Saturdays ride produced a head count of 44 squirells, forest damp but drying. (some mud, most can be avoided if you want to).
sze187

hmm, had no joys getting knobbly tyres for the hybrid bike. Will join you for the ride up to Epping forest anyway and get a MBT for the following.

Tomorrow

Beth

Sorry to hear about your bike Sad

Am still planning to come along tomorrow (all assuming I can still persuade my boyfriend to deliver and collect me!)
Whereabouts will we finish up, so I can let him know? Would it be possible for me to meet you guys at the forest? I'm coming from Hertford and trying to get down to the shortest journey as I'm cadging a lift!

Thanks!
alaric

Hi Beth,

Finish will be in the same place as the start.

Not sure about metting in the forest as I don't know what Mikes route plan is - it's probably best to phone him this morning as he may not check the forum before riding.

I'll pm you with his mobile number.

Have fun!

Alaric.

i know, it was locked less than 5 metres from the table we were all sat at and they must have come within a metre or two of me to get out when leaving. GITS!

they did leave the back wheel though, so mountain unicycling here i come Wink

ill borrow the missus's bike and come and join you all next weekend.

44 squirrels is mightly impressive, i hope you will all be wearing nametags. Wink
Beth

Alaric - thanks for sending through Mick's no - you saved my ride!

Mick - thanks so much for leading the way and also for meeting me at high beech - really enjoyed my first foray into the forest. Will definitely be back as soon as I've persuaded my mum to lend me her car!
sze187

4 dead roadkill squirrels and 1 dead robin from my ride with Martin!
alaric

No problem Beth!

Re last Sundays ride 30-Sept.

Just like to add a postscrit to Sundays ride, realy enjoyed riding with people who were not to familiar with Epping Forest, I hope you enjoyed and come again, it made a nice change that three of the new faces were women, I know both Beth & Jilayne had been trying to meet up with us for some time, and if anyone says again they can't manage the forest on a hard tail bike, just come and go out on a ride with Jilayne, hats off to her. I was in total awe, cyclocross bike, rigid frame, relativaly smoth tyres, was able to handle everything the forest through up, climbing hills over roots as if they didn't exist and at a pace that left me lagging, I just wish Mick the Brick had been present.
No matter what age, pace or gender we will try to accomodate riders, just bring helmet, glasses & a drink. Rides leave South Woodford 10.00am Sat & Sundays as long as its not raining or the forest has not turned to total mud, road ride alternative will be offered during such times.
