London to Brighton - Off Road

I've registered interest for this event... they are still waiting for some of the course to be signed off before the event can go ahead... but they are pretty sure this will happen....

Any one else up for it ?

im up for this, 73 miles mainly off road Very Happy
Rich

I'm considering this...how hard you rekcon it will be ?

20miles on a Saturday is fine and I could do more but not another 50miles!  Are you guys used to doing this kind of distance?  What sort of time would you be expecting ?

9 miles an hour is a steady off road pace - if there is a good mix of singletrack and bridleway. There will probably be more bridleway/doubletrack so I would think 8-9 hours would be an achievable time.
Although it does get hilly as you aproach the coast.... Shocked  Shocked

will def be stamina over speed..... will need some good snacks to keep energy levels up and a nice steady pace.

It won't be like a "Fast n' Furious" Saturday in the forrest, and i doubt the terrain will be that hard going. I agree, i think it will mostly bridleways or well established footpaths
tonto

two other things to consider

1/ if the weather is poor it will be a right slog which you cannot duck out of due to sponsorship obligations.

2/ it is the week before dusk till dawn - an altogether fabulous event (weather dependent)

as I would struggle to book succesive weekends away I know which one I am signing up for.
Jason_wright

is there anyone else thinking of doing Dusk till Dawn ?
has anyone else done it before ?

I saw this event last year.... a week after it had happened...doh !!.... and was thinking about doing it this year
tonto

have done dtd for the last two years and it has  been one of the best events on the calender.

This year I am thinking of doing it solo.

im aiming to get to brighton for last orders Wink
squirrel chaser

is that the thetford d2d by the way?
tonto

sure is - the course is normally newly formed and rides a lot better than the overused waymarked trails.

is the Lonon Brighton on a Sunday? If so I could squeeze it in.
Jason_wright

yep, London 2 Brighton is on the Sunday (28th)... i am now thinking it will be a good warm up for Dusk till Dawn

I've started a new thread for the D2D

Jason_wright

ah yes, ooppps, sorry.. it is 27th
i think i took the 2 from the 27th (Actual Event)
Then the 8 from the 18th (Registration opening)

... Then made up the 28th  Embarassed

I have registered for the London to Brighton Offroad (opened for entries today) - its actually on Saturday 27th September starting at Roehampton Uni.

Has anyone else registered?
SENOR J

Yep.
I'm in.
Been wanting to do the London to Brighton for yonks , particularly after me dad died of heart disease, but i kept missing out for one reason or another.
This will be far better.(than the road version)
Better get some long rides in between now and then!
I think if you complete in 8 hours it's a good time.
If you can cycle for 20/25 miles round the forest at a Mick pace on a saturday , then 70+miles at a decent cadence/rpm is easily attainable.
Did the south downs way last year, got very lost and did 85 miles on the first day =9.5 hours . Just got to spin it out.
very excited.
