SRAM x.7 shifterMy thumb shifter on my RH rear shifter has stopped springing back when pushed to change gear. It's clean and lubricated and the cables are fine as far as i can tell, it just suddenly happened. From what i've read it's a bad idea to take these x.7s apart as they just explode pieces everywhere. Any one have any ideas? or shall i just buy another, they're only £19 afterall.

Hi Oliver,
There are a couple of possible solutions:
Have you banged the lever recently (I've done it with my knee a few times). Depending on the generation of your levers, they can be long enough to bend on impact so that the long lever fouls on the short one, stopping it from returning smoothly.
You can't really straighten it in place, but you can take the shifter apart, if you're very careful and note where all the parts come from. There is a danger of ending up with small parts all over the room, but I've done it successfully a few times.
If the lever isn't bent it's likely to be crud or lack of lube somewhere. You say it's clean and lubed, but you will eventually get dirt in the cables. Replace cables and outers and while the cable is out of the shifter make sure the shifter works smoothly - you can get a bit of lube inside it through the cable hole.

well yes i did fall on my right side at the weekend - it was definitely fine before that, not sure if thats when the problem originated or not. I will do as you suggest tomorrow and carefully take it apart - it can't be that hard after all.
