London2Southend -for BHF : please sponsor! New Link!!!Hi All!
Have not managed to catch up lately and the amount of rain has not exactly fired my enthusiasm either! I guess that Epping has been resembling a bog of late?
Anyway, I am taking part in the British Heart Foundation London 2 Southend Bike Ride for charity on Sunday (15th) as my Dad is probably alive today only because of the skill and care shown by the staff at various hospitals. I think that we've all probably been affected by someone in our families suffering from heart problems and it is a growing problem with today's sofa generation and fast-food junkies.
It will be my longest ride ever, at 59 miles, so I'll be earning any contributions you may make!
Any donations will be gratefully received (Assos cream included!),

Two hours!!!!!!????!!!!!!!
On a MTB with locks, bottles, lights, mudguards, etc?
If I was that quick I'd be riding somewhere in France at the moment....
Seriously, I'm doing the event in a group and I think that we're classing it as a day out, not a race, so no silly speed stuff from me!
I am expecting about 6 hours, allowing for food and drink (and call-of-nature) stops so should be in Southend for about 2:30-3pm.
I have to cycle to Southend station (from my sister's, before you think that I'm riding from Slough to Southend BEFORE I begin!) at around 6:30am to get the train to Stratford, then to Victoria Park and from the Finish back to my sister's afterwards, so I think that pacing myself would be sensible?
Don't you think that is worth sponsoring me for?
You are harsh!

Had a great day with the weather exeeding all expectations! Instead of getting drenched, I stayed dry all day and got sunburnt on my face and neck!!
I hope that your ride (the Leukaemia Research Bikeathon?) went well too. I did that 2 years ago when they only went up to 26 miles and did about 38 miles all in, getting there and back too. Did you do the 26 or 52 mile route?
I did prefer the BHF ride as the countryside was an improvement on the roads of London! I'm 'almost' tempted to get a road bike now....

Get a road bike....do it....much more grace and sooo light....it's a lot harder going 25 on the dlats with a mountain bike. Oh, and all those greats who've done it on the road...Simpson...Anquetil....Coppi...Ah yes, so much more romance than Peat....Killeen...
