| Please Read the Following Brief Baseball Almanac Message |
Dear Baseball Almanac Fan: In 2001 Baseball Almanac installed its first online database. That database streamlined our raw statistics and allowed us to dynamically create more than fifteen thousand pages from a single script. We now have twenty-eight (yes, twenty-eight) fully functional databases and more than one-hundred fifty-thousand pages of baseball history. Most search engines do not parse these pages very well. The page you were looking for still exists as we do not remove early content, but it has been automated. We truly do apologize for this inconvenience. Example: Our team rosters were once stored in flat pages that ended in .shtml. We decided to automate the rosters so we could add uniform numbers, dynamic quotations, salary data, Opening Day data and other similar fields. ALL of our team rosters are now generated from a single script and are located in the Team by Team section on the menu to the left. This saves us web space, cuts down on our bandwidth usage, and allows us to maintain the script from a single reference point. We also make countless modifications to Baseball Almanac - as illustrated by the front page of our website. These improvements occur on a regular basis, but we are not perfect (we do attempt to be though) and we sincerely apologize for the issue. Our search engine is updated whenever Google visits and it can be accessed at the bottom of the main menu. Try doing a search there to find what you were looking for, please. At the top of every page is a link where you can contact us with additional questions, suggestions or concerns. I truly hope you understand our efforts to constantly improve the site sometimes cause these issues and I sincerely hope you take the time to visit the menu on the left to find the data you were looking for. My sincere apology, Sean Holtz, Baseball Almanac "Where what happened yesterday, is being preserved today." |
