Beastway 2006 - The Grand Finale

Hello, me again.

This year's Beastway racing will be the last ever, so get in while you still can. I did this last year and really enjoyed it - despite coming consistently last! (Well I may have beaten a couple of Novice Men).

Its a great place to start racing. Very friendly and really handy for something to do on a Wednesday night after work (if you work in London).

Racing starts May 24, and closes with a team race on July 26.

The 2006 series will see few changes with 10 races then a team race on the final prize giving night, but as this will be the final series after a 13 year run, you can expect a few surprises to be added!

Why is this the end?
After September 2006 Eastway Cycle Circuit will be closed & bulldozed to accommodate the 2012 Olympics.

Despite many assurances that a suitable replacement will be provided to cyclists during the construction of the Olympics, the Beastway Crew have had to conclude that the facilities offered for off-road at the new site will not be sufficient to run Beastway MTB races.

John Mullineaux of Beastway says; Quote:
Quote:
"The joy of Beastway is that it's London based & many ride it after work, cycling there in time to race. The option offered at Rammey Marsh on the outskirts of London by the M25 is too small, too far away & lacks enough varied terrain to make the series a viable one".

Why is it called Beastway?
Beastway is so called because it is held at the Eastway Cycle Circuit and it's a bit of a beast! It is run by a group of people drawn from the cycling community of London and the surrounding area. A 'Structureless Tyranny' acts as a coordinating body, which in turn relies upon friends and cycle clubs to make the series happen.

Over the years it has become the largest weekly off-road event in the UK.

The racing is as hard as you want it to be - it has nurtured national champions, but is also friendly enough and suitable for novices to try out the sport and ride much more slowly!

The race lasts one hour (shorter for younger riders), and you do as many laps as you can in that time.

Post here if you want to meet up with folk for racing or ask any questions about it.
