Can anyone suggest the cheapest way (a company name would be great) to send a used bicycle from London to Sydney? I don't mind if it takes 3 months to ship (surface). Korean Air would like to charge me £36 per kilo of excess baggage. £36/kg * 13kg = £468 ~A$1200. I think that's just a bit more than my bike is worth.
Thanks, leon.

Hi Leon,

Drop me a pm with your personal email address, and I'll send an email to my ex-colleagues at Sterling relocation. They do a fair bit of business with Austrailia and may be able to slip your bike in the back of someone elses container at minimal cost - give me your email address and I'll make a few enquiries.

Alaric.

In reply to my own post... The average price charged by shipping companies for a bike box from London to Sydney door-to-door is £175. That's way to much. Royal Mail/Parcel Force won't accept it as the box is too large (max length 1.05 metres). I then learned that it is possible to ask an airline for an excess baggage allowance (free) so I've managed to score an extra 20kg of checked baggage. In total the airline will allow me 23kg (non-North American flight) + 20kg checked baggage and 12kg hand luggage (bag + laptop bag/briefcase/handbag). The weight of my bags will come pretty close to the limit and I'll find out tomorrow when it's time to check in. Sorry, but I won't be stopping by in Greece on the way home. Thanks, leon.

Hi Leon,

That's great information/news about taking your bike back to Australia.
Very helpful for future reference and also great that you won't be without your bike Very Happy

We have really enjoyed all your commentary and photos on the forum, I am sure we would have enjoyed riding with you too, had we been there and not here.

Have a good journey and maybe see you sometime in the future.

Emily & Alaric
